🔹 The Fundraising Fund

The Fundraising Fund is the central financial stream powering Mindroot’s dementia prevention mission. Unlike general charity funds, this stream is exclusively dedicated to strategic, evidence-based action that aims to prevent dementia before it begins — through education, early lifestyle intervention, and targeted research support.

Our approach is rooted in science and driven by youth. We’re here not only to raise awareness — but to reduce risk, reshape futures, and rewrite what the next generation knows about brain health.

Every donation to this fund is used with clarity, care, and purpose. We allocate resources to areas with direct, measurable impact — all tied to our guiding belief: dementia can be prevented, but only if we act early, consistently, and together.

🔹 How Your Donation Is Used

Each donation is carefully directed to one of three core focus areas — prevention education, research contribution, and campaign delivery. We publish quarterly summaries so you can see exactly what your money helps build.

🔸 1. Prevention Education – 10% of all donations

We invest in practical, youth-accessible education that empowers people to understand and reduce their own dementia risk. This includes:

  • Mindroot Brain Health Starter Packs – printed booklets delivered to Year 10–13 students across UK state schools, containing actionable prevention advice, daily brain-health habit trackers, myth-busting facts, and QR codes to interactive content.
  • The Mindroot Curriculum Module – our classroom-ready workshop designed in collaboration with cognitive neuroscience graduates and NHS advisors. Delivered by trained youth ambassadors and educators.
  • Digital Learning Tools – including short videos, infographics, and interactive quizzes shared through our platform and in partnership with schools and sixth forms.

🔸 2. Scientific Research Support – 80% of all donations

While Mindroot is primarily an outreach initiative, we believe strongly in supporting the research that makes our prevention messaging credible and current.

30% of all Fundraising Fund donations are directed to trusted, UK-based dementia prevention research organisations, including:

  • The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI)
  • The Alzheimer’s Research UK Prevention Fund
  • King’s College London – Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, supporting studies into midlife risk factors and protective interventions

We prioritise projects focused on modifiable risk, particularly those exploring the impact of diet, cardiovascular health, sleep, exercise, and cognitive training on long-term brain function.

Where appropriate, Mindroot applies for co-branding or youth advisory roles in these research programmes to ensure we stay informed and involved.

🔸 3. Campaign & Infrastructure Delivery – 10% of all donations

These funds support the essential machinery needed to keep Mindroot running with integrity and impact:

  • National Campaigns such as #NotInevitable and Mindroot365, which challenge the myth that dementia is an unavoidable part of ageing. These campaigns promote practical, day-to-day prevention steps across social platforms, sixth form groups, and local press.
  • Training our Mindroot Ambassadors – DBS-cleared youth volunteers who receive safeguarding training, presentation coaching, and brain health education, so they can confidently deliver workshops across the UK.
  • Operational Infrastructure, including website hosting, cloud tools, secure storage of anonymous health feedback data, digital accessibility services (e.g. closed captioning, alt text for materials), and legal/insurance fees.

We are committed to keeping administrative costs under 12% of our total annual spend.

🔹 Annual Impact Goals (2025–26)

Your donation will directly support:

  • 1,200+ Brain Health Starter Packs distributed in schools across Greater London, Leeds, Manchester, and Birmingham
  • 40+ in-person prevention workshops reaching over 3,500 students aged 15–18
  • Ongoing support of at least three UK-based prevention research projects, focused on modifiable dementia risk in young adulthood and midlife
  • A national roll-out of Mindroot365, our flagship year-long cognitive health habit challenge, reaching an estimated 10,000 young people online

🔹 Transparency and Reporting

All Fundraising Fund activity is tracked through:

  • Fund Usage Reports twice a year (published on mindroot.org/reports)
  • Open-source educational material archives
  • Digital receipts for external research donations
  • Optional donor-specific updates upon request

We want our supporters to see their impact clearly — not just in numbers, but in the lives they’re helping to reshape.

🔹 Why This Matters

Dementia is not just a disease of the old. It starts decades before symptoms appear — often silently, through risk factors we ignore. Most funding still pours into treatment, but the science is clear: up to 40% of dementia cases could be prevented through earlier action.

When you support the Mindroot Fundraising Fund, you’re choosing to change the timeline — not waiting for diagnosis, but intervening now, when it still counts.

This is not just a donation. It’s a defence.
